Ethiopiest

We were driving in the car on Saturday and Adam said something about Obama being an Athiest (he's not). From the back seat Luke calls, "Obama's an ethiopiest?"
Hmmm...maybe.

Middle floor

"But you get the food!" Will shouted to me as I left the upstairs bedroom where he was sleeping tonight.
For the past week or so he's been telling me that he can't sleep upstairs...he can only sleep on the middle floor (his way of saying he wants to sleep in our bedroom) But tonight another reason came out....the food is on the middle floor. "Mom, you get to eat when you go to bed...you are down there by the fridge that's FULL of food!"
Move over sugar plums, he's having visions of leftovers dancing in his head.

Bridget decided to make dinner out of her new Kit Kittredge cookbook. On the menu: Cincinnati Chili.

Here's the funny part: I was standing across the counter from her doing something while she chopped the onions. First I heard a few sniffles and I looked up to see tears. We laughed and she kept cutting. I went back to work. Then more sniffles and more tears. Giggles and a bit of exasperation. "How am I gonna get this done?" Exit Bridget.

Bridget returns with a solution: her SUNGLASSES!!

She's the most stylish cook I've ever laid eyes on! And the chili was delicious. Everyone wanted seconds. Oh, and you should have seen the table....white tablecloth, name cards, and conversation cards hidden under each plate. We talked about dream vacation spots, favorites and memories. It was wonderful

Stewart Falls hike

(I'm trying to catch up so here's a fall post)

The kids were out of school for Fall Break so I decided to take them on a hike. Stewart Falls trail head is right beside Aspen Grove up American Fork Canyon but you can also get to it from Sundance. It was a great hike for us...

As we were driving to it Bridget kept saying, "I don't want it to be as long as the Bryce Canyon hike. I'm only going on it if it is a short one."

When we stopped at the booth to pay the park fee I asked the ranger how long exactly? He said, "Oh about 2 miles." Luke was sitting right behind me and whispered, "Don't tell Bridget but that is longer than the Bryce Canyon one."

Twenty minutes into the hike Bridget's complaining queud the "let's talk about the pioneers" talk. She was enjoyable the rest of the way.

Will was pleased to find 2 W's!!

After a long hike up and a long descent down to the base of the falls we made it!! The falls were beautiful and the crisp air felt so good! We decided that if it were summer we would have jumped in!




Will's Kung-Fu Panda moves got him through when he got tired.

One thing the kids thought was funny: We passed alot of families along the way and in almost every group someone had something from BYU on. Once the kids caught on to it they would study the people as the passed and then comment on it as soon as the people were out of ear shot. At the very end of the hike...we're talking the parking lot was in view, two guys aproached us, all in green and brown hunting camo outfits. The kids were a bit disappointed that they were going to break the trend but just as the men passed us we noticed they were actually wearing a BYU hat...hunting style. We laughed so hard when we got to the car. Who new?

Great Day.

Sleep

Crying log: Day 2: Nap #1: Doesn't count (he fell asleep while he was eating)
Nap #2: Cried for 30 minutes
Bedtime: I layed him down, rubbed and patted his back for a minute or so then left....Fussed off and on for under 10 minutes and then he was out!! YES!
You time: Mom sits in the rocker and complete's 2 of Luke's sudoku puzzles. It was so quiet it almost scared me.

P.S. I am doing Jessica's EASY bedtime routine:
E=eat
A=activity (about 45 minutes)
S= sleep
Y=you time
And it is working really well!

four for four

1. Jonah:
Adam is gone this week so my first goal of the week is to teach Jonah to fall asleep on his own.
Crying log: Day 1: cried for 40 minutes (not too bad) I hope it's less tomorrow.

Jonah has learned 1 sign. Milk. And he signs it for everything! If I ask him to sign something else he just smiles..he knows but he's not going to let us know, at least not yet. He does say BA BA for bye bye and waves. But technically it's the same sign as milk, just turned.

2.Will:
Will's new favorite movie: Hercules.
Yesterday he informed me that it is actually a really good show.
Me: How come?
Will: Because it's got God's in it....and love.
Me: Oh really! (Note to self...hide that thing next time you go downstairs!)

He taught the FHE lesson tonight on being a Child of God. They made crowns to help them visualize the concept. Glitter and everything. They were great!

I took him to a doctor's appointment today. That's boring, you say, but wait! There was a couple sitting not far (enough) from us who could not get enough of each other....they were actually kissing--off and on for their entire wait which was at least 20 minutes! Gag me with a spoon. In a doctor's office? Who does that? Don't they know those places are G rated? I managed to keep Will's attention on the National Geographic Magazine for quite sometime (look at that momma Baboon with her baby picking something off her back...Will, did you notice the gecko licking someones ice cream...) but at one point he glanced over and then turned back really quickly. My eyes were throwing hot daggers at them. After he turned to look for the third or fourth time I moved us over to another spot where a large vase nicely covered their faces! There are a lot of things I would have liked to have said, should have said.


3. Bridget: ran to Jonah's door a few times while he cried himself to sleep. She loves him so much. Sometimes when we are upstairs Jonah crawls into her room looking for her when she's at school.
Tonight Bridget was in charge of the treat for FHE. Banana splits. She LOVES to be in charge in the kitchen. She shooes everyone out and busies herself taking orders, and serving them up. Eyes twinkling. We followed up with a "You're great, you're great, you're great....YES!" chant. (my work experience teacher Mrs. Hall's third grade class) She smiled as she joined us at the table!

4.Luke: "Fourth Grade is the best. Today we had shrimp poppers and ramen noodles and because we are the last grade to eat, I got to have four bowls of noodles!!

"I do not have to comb my hair, I just got it cut!!"

He's our hummer and doesn't know it:
Me, calling upstairs after bedtime: Boys, stop talking!"
Luke: We're not talking
A few minutes later I hear it again: Boys, no more talking!"
Will: It's Luke, he's humming!
Luke: I am not!"
